Dozens Of Patients On Stretchers Evacuated From Exeter Hospital

Kingston Fire said it has sent two ambulances to Exeter Hospital following a report of a "chemical release" in the emergency room, according to the report.

The operating room and emergency room have been evacuated until the cause of the incident can be determined.

Six patients were transferred to nearby facilities as a precaution, and new patients in need of emergency care are being diverted to other facilities in the region. There were initial reports that carbon monoxide might have been the cause, but fire officials said test results came back negative.

Town manager Russel Dean told CBS: 'What we know is patients were being treated with flu-like symptoms when those treating them also started feeling ill so the OR was shut down'.
