GM recalls 700K pickup trucks for power steering issue

GM is recalling thousands of Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks due to a possible software issue that affects steering.

This includes 690,685 Silverado and Sierra 1500s in the US, and another 80,000 in Canada and 25,000 in other countries.

The NHTSA said the loss of power steering assist for a split second and suddenly coming back could cause a drive to lose temporary control over the vehicle and raise the chances of an accident. The incident was first investigated back in February of this year, and the recall was decided as the best option on June 22.

Customers who answer the recall and return their vehicles to authorized dealers will receive a software update to patch up the defect.

You can check and see if your vehicle is effected on the NHSTA website.

According to representatives of General Motors, more new models, the engineers made a few changes to avoid potential voltage drop, which leads to shutdown of the amplifier.

Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-432-8782.
