Tottenham's Trippier a doubt for Premier League opener

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has moved to allay fears of the club's fans that he and the Spurs board are not working on bringing new players to White Hart Lane this summer.

Trabzonspor president Muharrem Usta has told the Turkish media his club are interested in AC Milan's Jose Sosa and Tottenham Hotspur's Moussa Sissoko.

Trippier's potential absence leaves a hole at right-back, following the sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City, with Pochettino indicating England Under-20 worldwide Kyle Walker-Peters was not ready for a first-team berth.

However, an ankle injury to Trippier took some of the silver lining away from Saturday's victory, with the full-back substituted and leaving the ground on crutches.

"The most important thing is the performance and trying to get fit".

The England worldwide suffered a whack to his left knee early on following a collision with wide man Alex Sandro. He left the stadium on crutches and wearing a protective boot.

Pochettino added: "No I don't regret not taking Kieran off after the first challenge because it was an accident".

Pochettino said: "We all like to win, certainly more than lose, but today it's not most important". But still we need to wait and we can not saying anything today and wait until Monday. Now the feeling is good and we hope it is not a big issue. If Trippier is unable to play at Newcastle on August 13, Kyle Walker-Peters could get the start.

But he went down again five minutes before half-time and this time was forced to leave the pitch for good, with Kyle Walker-Peters, a 20-year-old with no Premier League experience, replacing him.
