Josh Onomah joins Aston Villa on loan

Aston Villa have signed Tottenham midfielder Josh Onomah on a season-long loan deal after he agreed a new four-year contract with Spurs.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been a fringe player for Mauricio Pochettino's first-team squad for the past two seasons, but the former Southampton and Espanyol boss feels that Onomah will have a greater chance of developing elsewhere.

England youth worldwide Onomah featured 10 times for Tottenham last season but made just five substitute appearances in the Premier League as he fell behind fellow academy graduate Harry Winks in the pecking order.

Last season, Onomah made 12 appearances across all competitions, including Spurs' 2-0 victory over Villa in the FA Cup third round.

An exciting prospect, he was part of the England squad that won the U20 World Cup this summer.

Pochettino has explained decision to let Onomah move to Villa on loan for the 2017-18 campaign.

Grealish is set to be absent for at least three-months.

Speaking ahead of Villa's season opener at home to Hull City on Saturday, the Englishman spoke of his determination to hit the ground running and impress manager Steve Bruce.

News of Onomah's signing went down well with the Villa faithful, with many believing that he will add the quality necessary to help the side secure promotion back to the top flight.

The 20-year-old offers an alternative to Ahmed Elmohamady, Andre Green and Albert Adomah in the wide areas and could also play centrally if required.
