Dolphins Fear Ryan Tannehill Needs Season-Ending Surgery

The Dolphins are awaiting the results of second and third opinions for Tannehill's injured knee, but a source told ESPN that the team fears he will need season-ending surgery. Several doctors will be consulted, including renowned orthopedic surgeon James Andrews. It's worth noting that Tannehill decided not to undergo surgery following last season's injury, instead preferring stem-cell treatment. His left knee buckled while he scrambled without contact.

Moore took over for Tannehill when Tannehill suffered a season-ending sprained ACL and MCL in his left knee during Week 14 of the 2016 season. Right away he showed Adam Gase and the rest of the team that he was capable to lead.

When pressed on whether Moore is cemented as his No. 1 quarterback now, Gase said, "Right now, Matt is our quarterback". We're going to talk to a lot of people. "Nothing is off the table". I've got to see what's going on with Ryan. "We'll make a decision after that". "I guess I don't get all the hatred towards him", Gase said. Ryan Tannehill remains in question with a significant knee injury, and there's no certainty the team would move forward with backup Matt Moore if there's an extended absence. It stinks (with Tannehill being injured). He saw a drop in interceptions (by 7) and fumbles ( by 3) that season and had a Bears-high 92.3 quarterback rating, enough to earn him another season with the team. "Guys were popping around and pretty competitive". He returned this season sporting a knee brace on his left knee after electing to forego knee surgery.

Moore was asked what he would say to those thinking the Dolphins need to seek a starting QB elsewhere. He seems to be in good spirits. "Been kind of going through that, kind of seeing how hard [Tannehill] worked to be back out there and go through the spring - a lot of the things he did to make sure everything was good".

Moore posted a 2-2 mark last season in place of Tannehill. Tannehill and the Dolphins have some decisions to make in the coming hours- so is former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler a legitimate Tannehill replacement in 2017?
