US Secretary Of State Tillerson Denies Rumors He Is Leaving Job

Tillerson has had some tension with the White House over staffing at the State Department and his independence to make decisions about the nation's foreign policy agency، senior administration officials told ABC News.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is growing increasingly frustrated with the Trump administration and could quit before the year is through, according to reports.

"He does have the ability to go away for a few days, on his own", Secretary of State spokeswoman Heather Nauert told inquirers Tuesday. "He's got a lot of work".

Nauert said that Trump addressed the Boy Scouts Jamboree at Tillerson's invitation، but the secretary could not attend.

The secretary of state said he has a "good" relationship President Donald Trump and will remain in the current post "as long as the president lets me".

Tillerson has been one of Trump's closest confidants, regularly dining with the president at the White House.

Tillerson spoke briefly with reporters before heading into a meeting with Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in Washington. Trump also has sided with Saudi Arabia in its feud with Qatar even as Tillerson has sought to mediate the dispute between the two United States allies. Still, Nauert asserted that Tillerson intends to return to work soon, and remains committed to his job.

The rumors of a pending "Rexit" were first spread around by CNN last week, when the network cited sources out of the White House in claiming that the top United States diplomat was frustrated with Trump's different viewpoints on important foreign policy matters. "We have a lot of work that is left to be done ahead of us".

"Tillerson may initially have had a view, then the president has his view, and obviously the president's view prevails", the official said.
