'Narcos' Season 3 Gets Release Date, First Teaser

Narcos season 3 premieres on September 1st on Netflix. But the explosive season 2 finale ended with (spoiler alert), Escobar being unceremoniously executed. "From the beginning when we chose to call the show Narcos and not Pablo Escobar, I had always had in mind to tell the continuing story of cocaine".

Thankfully, the show did get renewed, and today, Netflix released a short teaser for the new season which includes a release date. "There's a revolving-door aspect to narco kingpins and we'll certainly exploit that". Just as Gilberto announces a bold plan to walk away from the business, DEA agent Javier Peña (Pedro Pascal) enlists the help of American and Colombian law enforcement to take it down.

In the final scene of the second season, Pena is asked, "How much do you know about the Cali Cartel?"

Netflix announced Friday that the show will return on September 1 and provided our first look at the Cali Cartel - the "biggest drug lords you've probably never heard of".

The third season of Narcos will shift focus from Pablo Escobar to Colombia's Cali Cartel. But less headlines, proving the Cartel operates a little differently than Escobar. Netflix is clearly thinking the same way, eager to point out in the teaser that "To pretend that these guys weren't just as evil as the guy that came before them, that's a mistake".

"The show, since its inception, has never been about Pablo Escobar".
