Trump reacts on Twitter after special counsel reportedly starts investigating him

President Donald Trump is telling his Twitter followers that they are witnessing the "single greatest WITCH HUNT in American history".

Mueller is investigating alleged Russian interference in the 2016 us presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

The Washington Post reported late Wednesday that special counsel Robert Mueller is seeking interviews with three Trump administration officials who weren't involved in Trump's campaign.

Also unclear was whether the president's comment confirming he was under investigation was based on direct knowledge or media reports that Mueller is examining whether the president obstructed justice by firing Comey last month.

Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee that he believes Trump fired him last month because he resisted a request to drop the Russian Federation investigation, especially as it related to former national security adviser Michael.

On Wednesday night, a spokesman for Trump's lawyer did not refute the notion that Trump was under examination but decried what he said were leaks that led to the story.

Comey admitted he was the source of leaks of privileged information.

The pair of tweets come one day after the Washington Post reported that Mueller's Russian Federation probe has been expanded to include potential crimes committed by the president.

The stated focus of the investigation has been Russia's alleged efforts to tilt last November's presidential election Trump's way and whether the winner's campaign was involved in any way.

Robert Mueller, a former FBI director, is leading an investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 United States presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Trump has said he is "100 per cent" willing to testify under oath on Comey meetings and tell the FBI Special Consul Robert Muller that he never asked FBI to stop investigating.

In a sign of the newfound seriousness of Mueller's investigation, Vice President Mike Pence's office confirmed that he has hired an attorney to deal with the special counsel investigation.

Ledgett wrote an internal memo about Trump's phone call to Rogers, officials told the Post.

All week, some of Trump's most ardent defenders, including his son Donald Trump Jr., his White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and friend and occasional adviser Newt Gingrich have questioned the probe in similar ways.
