The RJD chief had on June 22 said that its ally the JD-U's call to support NDA Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind was "a wrong decision", adding he would appeal to Nitish Kumar not to commit "a historic blunder".

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and opposition Congress didn't agree on a Presidential candidate for the year 2017, and thus fielded Dalit leaders from their own party for the highest constitutional post. It has gained a storm that two Dalits are pitted against each other for President's post, the truth of society is coming outside. "I want that we should wrap caste and bury it deep inside the ground, and our society should move forward". The unity of these parties is based on a common ideology of democratic values, inclusiveness, social justice, free press, transparency, end of poverty and destruction of caste structure.

Opposition's presidential candidate Meira Kumar, who will file her nomination papers on Wednesday, the last day for filing nominations, joined social networking site Twitter on Monday.

The fact that the election was being viewed as a contest between two Dalits reflected society's mindset in her view. This is not a political war but a fight of ideologies. Their support has sealed the deal for Kovind who in all set to take over from Pranab Mukherjee. The achievements and qualities of the candidates were not discussed, but their caste was.

"This is how Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar treated the Leader of Opposition", Swaraj tweeted.

Asked about alleged attacks on Dalits in the recent past, she said, "It is quite shameful". "This will be the plank on which I will fight the election", she said. After the government named Mr Kovind, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had even said, "The Office of the President is a key post. Such acts are hurting our constitution", she added. Senior Congress leader and state Registration Minister Abdul Jaleel Matan said it was meaningless to think about victory and defeat even before contesting the election.
