Kashmir: 2 army men injured in gun battle at DPS Srinagar

Two suspected militants were killed and three para commandos were injured in an encounter on Sunday afternoon at Pantha Chowk, on the outskirts of Srinagar.

After the militant attack yesterday, police, CRPF and army men launched a joint cordon and search operation in the DPS to flush out the militants, who were hiding there.

When they entered the school premise, all staff and students had already left the campus. "Later on, of the two wounded, an officer succumbed to his wounds, while as the constable is under treatment".

On the operation getting prolonged, the state police chief said, "There are 36 rooms, the building is huge".

After carrying the deadly attack, the militants ran into the nearby Delhi Public School (DPS) complex, which by then had closed for the day.

He, however, said they had to use whatever force to kill the militants and end their resistance.

For the last few days, terrorists have intensified their attacks on security forces.

"All injured army personnel are stable and out of danger", a police source said. The injured jawan was rushed to a hospital.

Later the security forces officials announced that both the militants have been "neutralised" and that their bodies were lying inside. The school has six more buildings.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

The authorities have also snapped high speed 3G /4G internet services across Kashmir Valley.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, said the government imposed Section 144 in the area where encounter is going on, "We don't want the locals to face any inconvenience due to law and order problems", he said.
