Montano said she hopes her effort empowers and inspires women who might feel pressured to follow a specific trajectory in life, whether pregnant or not.

This isn't the first time Montaño arrived at the USA championships to run pregnant.

Three years ago, Montano competed in the USATF Outdoor Championships while eight months pregnant with her first child.

Montano's decision to run while pregnant was one she made with her doctor's blessing, not that that necessarily stopped some people from sharing their unsolicited opinions.

The couple made plans to get pregnant again past year following the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, but they were prepared to put it off due to the Zika outbreak in Brazil.

"I came to work, me and Maya, we came to work", she said. After such a heartbreaking turn of events, it's truly delightful to see that Montano has recovered so gracefully. "I think there's something about coming out to any venue, not really expecting to win, but just going along with the journey and seeing what comes out of it. It was getting back up that defines me".

Young was taking part in the Ricoh Women's Open at Woburn, showing off a baby bump of her own at seven months pregnant. Wearing a top with Wonder Woman's face emblazoned on it, she said she wanted to act as an inspiration to her fans and friends.
