Lalchand Rajput hits out at BCCI for inviting fresh applications

The Indian cricket community were waiting for a reaction from skipper Virat Kohli on Anil Kumble's resignation as coach for the last 48 hours. Kohli deleted the post on the microblogging site close on the heels of the spin legend's decision to resign from his post due to untenable differences with the captain. "As I said, his (Kumble) point of view is out there and we respect that decision", he added. All the years he has played, there is no taking away from that aspect of him at all.

"That is what the whole team believes in".

Virat Kohli spoke of his respect for Anil Kumble's achievements as a former Indian cricketer but refused to discuss their bitter falling-out in an effort to preserve "the sanctity of the changing room".

Shastri worked with Kohli as team director before Kumble became coach in June previous year, and is said to have a good relationship with the captain. Finally, on Thursday, ahead of the first match against West Indies which is scheduled on June 23, Kohli has finally broken his silence on the ongoing spat with Anil Kumble.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acting president C.K. Khanna on Wednesday said that the new coach for the Indian cricket team, whose tenure will be fixed at least till 2019 World Cup, will be announced before the Sri Lankan tour. The captain is the sheet anchor of the Indian team and should know his responsibilities. "I've always respected that and we have continued to maintain that as well", he added.

"It's something that's very sacred and private to all of us, something that I would not express in details in a public scenario". The BCCI, which had invited applications for India's head coach post, last month, has invited fresh applications after ex-coach Kumble stepped down from the post amidst rumours of a rift with Kohli. The present bunch of youngsters including Kohli for whom money is above national pride was not comfortable with their head coach and Kumble was not one who could take this nonsense for long. At the same time the new coach should learn from the Kumble episode while not being puttee in the hands of the captain.

"The team members, who were feeling bad about the loss, in any case, felt that their coach was scolding them like children and not treating them like professionals".
