Spanish state prosecutor accuses Jose Mourinho of tax fraud

The 32-year-old has reportedly been summoned to appear before a judge on 31 July.

Ronaldo and Mourinho are the latest members of the soccer elite to be accused of tax fraud in Spain.

Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano also agreed a one-year suspended sentence with authorities for tax fraud last year.

Unconfirmed sources are stating that Mourinho allegedly owes €3.3 million in unpaid taxes to the Spanish government which, if true, is small change to the charges being brought before Ronaldo, which reportedly total €14 million and could (but won't) lead to a prison sentence for the four time Ballon d'Or victor.

Ronaldo, who is in Russian Federation at the Confederations Cup playing for Portugal, has played in Spain for Real Madrid since 2009.

It is believed that Benfica value Semedo at £48 million (R699.5 million), which is quite a bit higher than what United are said to be willing to pay for him.

Real Madrid did not respond to requests for comment on the allegations against Mourihno or Ronaldo's hearing.

"Jose Mourinho has not received any notification with regards to the news published today".

They added that Mourinho had already dealt with questions raised by tax authorities in 2015, settling issues with his 2011 and 2012 filings and reaching a settlement regarding 2013.

The agency published copies of the certificates.

It's only been a week since Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo was accused of €14.7m tax fraud. The Benfica Portuguese defender could then join United, at which point I may actually start to learn something about him beyond which club he plays for, his position and his nationality.

"The corporate structure was used by the accused in order to make the benefits derived from image rights opaque", the prosecutor said in a statement.

He denies the accusations and is threatening to leave Spain. The Madrid prosecutor says the case was presented to a local court.

Spanish prosecutors filed a claim against the former Real manager on counts of fraud dating from 2011 and 2012, Reuters reported on Tuesday.
