Senate Panel Meets With Special Counsel Robert Mueller in Russia Probe

A day later, Mr Rosenstein appointed Mr Mueller, who was at the helm of the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the September 11 attacks, as special counsel.

President Donald Trump appeared to confirm Friday that he is under investigation for obstruction of justice, claiming that he is being investigated for firing FBI Director James Comey by the man who told him to do it. In the meeting, Trump requested that the men "put that recommendation in writing", the White House has contended, prompting Rosenstein to offer a formal recommendation to Trump that Comey be fired because he mishandled the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails.

The panel announced Thursday that Johnson will testify June 21. "It's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won".

Trump hadn't publicly admitted he was personally under investigation until now.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the deputy White House press secretary, referred questions about Trump's tweet to the President's private attorney, Marc Kasowitz.

The order from the general counsel for the transition team casts a wide net on documents that could shed light on ties between Trump's presidential campaign and representatives of Russia's government.

President Donald Trump is telling his Twitter followers that they are witnessing the "single greatest WITCH HUNT in American history".

In a series of statements on Twitter Thursday, Trump repeated his assertion that Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 campaign is a "WITCH HUNT" based on the "phony" premise of possible collusion between Russia and a cadre of Trump campaign associates.

That appeared to be the first public confirmation that Trump is being investigated for obstruction of justice - and a digital salvo trained at Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who wrote a memo criticizing Comey.

The Trump tweets come after the top lawyer for his transition team warned organization officials to preserve all records and other materials related to the Russian Federation probe.

"Sad!" Trump tweeted Friday morning.

The Washington Post reported late Wednesday that special counsel Robert Mueller is seeking interviews with three Trump administration officials who weren't involved in Trump's campaign.

Investigators in Mueller's office are set to interview Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and National Security Agency Director Adm. Mike Rogers, a source familiar with the matter has told CNN. Comey told Congress last week that he believed he was sacked "because of the Russian Federation investigation". A recent Washington Post report said Trump is being investigated for possible obstruction of justice by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Comey testified in a Senate hearing last week that he believed he was sacked "because of the Russian Federation investigation".

Top Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein expressed concern that Trump may try to fire both Mueller and Rosenstein, warning "he's in for a rude awakening" if he thinks he can shut down the investigation.

The Washington Post reported earlier this week Mueller is investigating whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice when he told Comey he hoped he could "let go" an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
