Rep. Steve Scalise's condition upgraded to 'serious'

The list, recovered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was found in James T. Hodgkinson's pocket, according to The Daily Caller.

The game, held at Nationals Park. has been a congressional tradition for more than a century. But she says he sold items from his business and told her he was going to Washington.

"The guy's down to a handgun, he dropped his rifle, they shoot him, I go over there, they put him in handcuffs", Conaway said, adding that if the shooter had "gotten inside the fence, where a bunch of guys were holed up in the dugout, it would have been like shooting fish in a barrel".

The wife of the gunman who wounded a Republican congressman and several others says her husband went to Washington because he wanted to work with people on changing tax brackets. "I thought he was gone", he said.

The couple's daughter had recently moved back into the house with her young child. She noted that she has received numerous threats herself over the years, and is now the target of millions of dollars in negative ads in a House district in Georgia where a hard-fought special election will take place next week.

Scalise underwent a third procedure and second surgery for his gunshot wound Thursday.

Scalise, who was shot in the left hip, was in critical condition Thursday at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

Among others, Republican Representative Steve King wrote on Twitter that "violence is incited by the leading cultural voices of the Left" and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich cited an "increasing hostility on the left". His office has said that he is in "critical" condition, following the shooting.

Doctors at MedStar Washington Hospital, where Rep. Scalise is being treated, discussed his condition on Friday saying that they believed he would be in the hospital for a considerable amount of time, possibly weeks.

Fox News" Chad Pergram said that his "medical situation is "complicated' and that he would "need later surgeries for broken bones".

At the game Thursday night, U.S. Capitol Police checked bags with dogs in tow, in an atmosphere that attendees said seemed particularly alert.

Trump added, "We pray for all of the victims of this bad crime who are still recovering, including Zachary Barth and Matt Mika, both of whom are respected and cherished by so many".

Investigators said in a statement that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has searched the van, which was parked not far from the Alexandria, Virginia, baseball field where Wednesday's shooting took place.

Richard Wagner, chief deputy of the St. Clair County, Ill., Sheriff's Dept., said there was nothing in Hodgkinson's record that would prevent him from legally owning firearms in IL.

He says, "They ran right into the fire" and saved a lot of lives.

Wagner said there was no way to predict that Hodgkinson would take such violent action.

Despite the party atmosphere at the ball park, Larson said Wednesday's shooting cast "a pall" over the game. The bureau said it had recovered a cell phone, computer, and camera in the van.

Like other Republican lawmakers who were on that field in Alexandria, Virginia, Scalise was preparing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game that - despite the horrific shooting - continued as scheduled on Thursday evening. Tickets for the game were selling at the rate of 500 per hour following the shooting, with proceeds benefiting a number of local charities.

Special agent David Bailey, who was hit in the ankle as he charged the suspect, threw the ceremonial first pitch.
