Spain's Lopez to play Berdych in Stuttgart Open quarters

STUTTGART, Germany Tomas Berdych became the latest seeded player to crash out of the Stuttgart Open on Friday as Spaniard Feliciano Lopez edged past the Czech third seed 6-7 (4) 6-3 6-4 to reach the last four.

6-4 in two hours, eight minutes, staving off six break points against the experienced Spaniard. He also reached the final in Marseille earlier this year.

Zverev said he was "a bit sorry, especially because I could always hear his daughter, who shouted, 'Come on, Daddy!' They're special moments".

Neither set produced a break point opportunity, as the world No 28 from Luxembourg collected only the second title of his career. I think it was a very tough match.

Pouille's semifinal opponent will be another Frenchman, Benoit Paire, who ousted Jerzy Janowicz of Poland 6-1, 7-6 (4).

Pouille was successful as he chased his first break point of the match, and with his serving imperious and strong, he claimed victory.

Pouille who saved a matchpoint against Jan-Lennard Struff in the round of 16, squandered his first against Lopez with a double fault but made amends on his third with an ace.
