Alexis Sanchez sprains ankle, may miss Cameroon clash

Chile has defeated Cameroon 2-0 in a group stage match of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup which is underway in Russian Federation.

The current victor of the America's Cup team Chile started with a victory at the eighth confederations Cup.

"As a result, the player is ruled out of the match on Sunday June 18 against Cameroon".

Chile qualified after winning the Copa America in 2016, while Cameroon won this year's African Cup of Nations.

Over a minute had passed since Vargas' exuberant celebrations when the on-field referee signalled the goal had been chalked off.

With the video review system getting its first airing in a major Federation Internationale de Football Association tournament, it brought plenty of tension, but also confusion and bitterness.

The busy Vargas finally got his goal inside stoppage time as he pounced in the box after Sanchez was denied.

Vargas looked to have opened in the scoring in the first half after being sent through by Arturo Vidal, but the goal was called off for an offside that was not initially given.

"We are going to decide tomorrow if he will play or not", Pizzi said.

"It's the first time we have played with this new technology and it's true while out on the pitch you are concentrating so that when it happens against you, it's hard to comprehend".

That seemed to dent Chile's confidence, and Cameroon became more adventurous, at least until Alexis Sanchez - coming off the bench following an ankle injury in training - crossed for Vidal to head in at the far post.

Sanchez charged through the Chilean defense, but saw his shot saved by Ondoa, only for Vargas to score the rebound.

In the 81st minute Sanchez hung in the penalty area of Cameroon where the ball was Arturo Vidal.

"Of course if they go overboard with these types of situations, it could turn into a circus".

Speaking on these coming Confederation Cup matches, Acting Brands and Marketing Director, StarTimes, Mr. Qasim Elegbede, said StarTimes remains commitment to delivering quality sporting content to its subscribers.

Ondoa had to palm away a Jose Fuenzalida shot two minutes later as Chile took firm control.

Johnny Herrera has played in goal for Chile in their three warm-up friendlies and is in line to play on Sunday in Moscow.

Cameroon could also have argued they should have had a referral in the first half when Vincent Aboubakar was harshly adjudged to have pulled back Vidal as Michael Ngadjui headed in a free-kick.
