Family: Michigan native shot multiple times in chest, arm

"It appears that the DC rep for Tyson Foods, Matt Mika was shot in the chest during the baseball shooting this morning and is in critical condition".

"We have confirmed that Matt Mika, director-government relations for our Washington, D.C. office, is among those who was shot this morning in Alexandria", Gary Mickelson, a Tyson spokesman, said in a statement.

Matt Mika, a former legislative aide to State Representative Dave Palsrok, was wounded during practice for the upcoming congressional baseball game. He remains in critical condition in the ICU at George Washington University Hospital.

Mika has worked for Tyson for more than six years. He's an Oakland County native and graduate of Adrian College.

Mika previously worked on Capitol Hill for two MI congressmen, former Rep. Dave Camp of Midland and Rep. Tim Walberg of Tipton.

Mika's LinkedIn profile shows he worked as a staff member for MI lawmakers, including U.S. Reps.

Three Republican members of Michigan's congressional delegation were among lawmakers who were practicing baseball when a gunman opened fire at the field in suburban Washington.

The gunman, James T. Hodgkinson III, 66, from IL, died from gunshot wounds from police.

Walberg noted that Mika was a "wonderful asset" to the GOP baseball team, waking up early in the morning to help out "when he didn't have to". "You know the American people see us on TV debating very contentious issues of concern, but you know when we're off the House and Senate floor, there's a lot of camaraderie", Cotton said.

"We truly appreciate the outpouring of support, love and prayers". "We're just hoping that he recovers and that he's OK".
