Chargers Rookie WR Mike Williams To Miss Remainder Of Offseason Program

Los Angeles Chargers first-round pick Mike Williams has a mild herniated disk in his lower back and will miss the remainder of the team's offseason program, including the mandatory minicamp.

But the concern here is that the Chargers originally hoped Williams would be back in a week and on Tuesday announced the receiver would be out until at least training camp.

"He's getting behind, but the most important thing is to get him healthy and get him back on the football field", Chargers first-year head coach Anthony Lynn said, via Los Angeles' team website. "It's just understanding Philip (Rivers), understanding the offense and trying to get the confidence before training camp". The No. 7 overall selection in this year's draft caught 98 passes for 1,361 yards and 11 touchdowns last season as a key member of Clemson's national championship club.

"I think for the most part, he's missing getting settled in", Allen said on his new teammate. Just for everybody to come there who helped me get to this moment, my family (and) my friends. He is third in Clemson history in receiving touchdowns, fourth in receiving yards and fifth in receptions.

He'll have some company in the receiver group on that front as Keenan Allen, Dontrelle Inman and Tyrell Williams have also missed time in the offseason.

Lynn was not the only one concerned with Williams' absence from physical activity.
