90s bombshell Mamta Kukarni declared proclaimed offender

The Thane sessions court judge HM Patwardhan on Tuesday declared actress Mamta Kulkarni and her husband Vicky Goswami as an absconding accused in the Rs 2,500 crores worth drug haul case and termed them as "proclaimed offenders". While her partner Vicky Goswami was arrested by the US DEA in Kenya, Kulkarni is still on the run. "We subsequently filed a report in court saying that the warrants could not be served due to the absence of the accused, and on Tuesday, the court declared both of them as absconders", said a senior officer with the Thane Police Crime Branch.

In April 2016, this case came to notice when two drug peddlers were arrested with Ephedrine drug worth Rupees 12 lakhs. He further added that the court's order has also given the police power to attach the properties of the accused. This was followed by them busting a major drugs racket and unearthing over a staggering 18.5 tonne of ephedrine, that amounted to a whopping Rs. 2,000 crore at an 'Avon Pharma Life Sciences Private Limited's factory in Solapur.

Mamta Kulkarni, the '90s s*x symbol who vanished from the spotlight and then reportedly married worldwide drug kingpin Vicky Goswami, is making news again.

The duo has been declared as absconders in the drug haul case which came into public view past year when the Thane police seized over 20 tonnes of Ephedrine and 2.5 tonnes of acetic anhydride - both banned party drugs from a pharmaceutical factory in Solapur - and other spots in Thane and Mumbai. His story in no less than a Bollywood thriller.

The Thane District Court had earlier issued non-bailable warrants against Vicky Goswami and Mamta. Post which, Manoj Jain who is the Director of Avon Lifesciences and 16 others along with him including Mamta Kulkarni and her husband were booked for smuggling. She married Vicky Goswami in 2013.
