Langer leads halfway through Senior PGA on Trump course

Still, neither Singh's bum foot or Langer's balky knee have impeded their bid to win the oldest senior major, with one shot separating them going into the final round at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling. He tied Jack Nicklaus' record of eight majors last week with a comeback victory in the Regions Tradition.

President Donald Trump's course about 25 miles outside Washington is exposed to the wind in part because Trump made a decision to cut down more than 450 trees to create scenic riverfront holes.

Until the 12th hole of the final round there was no indication of the runaway but when Fred Funk blew his drive OB and made a triple, Langer put his foot down and from there it became one of the best iron-striking finishes of his career, including an nearly hole-in-one at the par3 17th. Scott McCarron also shot a 67 and was two shots back, as was Vijay Singh. Vijay Singh is playing the event for the first time in his fifth year of eligibility and still wants to compete on the PGA Tour. Billy Andrade was 9 under after a 68.

The German closed with a round of 68 to oust the Fijian by one stroke on 18-under par. Now, he's not sure.

Langer was 11 under through 13 holes when play was halted because of darkness, one shot ahead of Vijay Singh, who shot 68 amid wind measured at more than 30 miles per hour. "They're all reachable. So even for medium-length hitters, if you hit the fairways you can get in there with a 3-wood or 5-wood".

"New caddie this week as well that I'm working really well with", Singh said. "It's hopefully going to get my blood flowing again and hopefully it's going to make up my mind".

Langer, meanwhile, was struggling with his iron shots.

"We'll talk every once in a while", Langer said. That's a common talk on this tour, what is hurting today and what was hurting last week, but it's great to be out here with these guys.

"The conditions were flawless, except for a little rain that I don't think bothered anybody", Singh said.

"I hit a lot of good putts", Langer said. "I got something in my hip joint about six holes ago which was pretty painful, but I'm just so blessed".
