Service Corporation International Honors Veterans and Public Servants

The City of Washougal and American Legion Cape Horn Post 122 will present the observance at 11 a.m., Monday, May 29, at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery, 3329 "Q" St.

" All day Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3400 28th St".

Larry Bowers, who serves as the Legion's activities chairman, said a total of 22 new flags have been placed on the Veterans and Jonathan R. Kephart Bridges, plus another 32 street flags that hang on lamp posts have been installed. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m.

After the parade, services will be held at the cemetery.

Tilton-Northfield - 9 a.m. The parade will start at 10 a.m. and follow a route along Front Street, Putnam Street, Fifth Street, Wooster Street and Eighth Street.

" About 11 a.m. -noon, Monday, following the ceremony at Linn Grove Cemetery, there will be a potluck luncheon at VFW Post No. 2121, 2514 7th Ave".

The annual event draws huge crowds every year, and this year's Grand Marshal, Daniel Steele, a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II, will lead the parade alongside members of the Long Beach VFW Lt. John F. O'Grady Post 1384, the American Legion, and many other organizations. Help is also needed to take down the flags around 4 p.m. that day.

The Rochelle Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m.in front of Rochelle City Hall on Monday.

Most of these parades and services are to be held Monday May 29 except for the ceremonies to be held in Lake George on Saturday May 27. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at Winslow Auditorium. An old fashioned march through the cemetery remembering the fallen will begin at 1 p.m. with a short program commencing at the beach.

The marchers include the Monroe Police Department, elected officials, American Legion 488, Harriman American Legion, fire departments, Monroe Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts, Auxiliary Fire Department and Auxiliary Legion Women.

Ivanhoe - A Memorial Day program will be at 9 a.m.at Lincoln Elementary School. Starting at 1 p.m., there will be food, fireworks, rock climbing wall and much more.

Taunton - A Memorial Day program will be at 9 a.m.at the Taunton Community Center with speakers Marc Klaith and Boys State participant Matt Lipinski, and music performed by The Swedes. Mass Monday at St. Anthony's Church.

A parade beginning at Tuxedo Public School grounds will begin at 11:30 a.m. First, is the presentation of the colors by the U.S. Coast Guard, followed by the honor guard. The ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m.at the Legion Hall, 10001 Aurora-Hudson Road. After ceremonies at the cemetery, a meal will be prepared by the Chickasaw VFW.
