"That says a lot about the team we are and we believe in each other", Thomas said. "I think they're better than any of the four times they played us".

Bradley Beal was nearly unstoppable for a second straight game, scoring a postseason career-high 38 points on 12/22 overall shooting, 5/10 from beyond the arc, and 9/10 from the free throw line.

"Kelly was the MVP tonight", Thomas said, after he himself tallied 29 points to go along with a game-high 12 assists. There is no, "I'm going to save this for the fourth quarter", because if you lose, you go home. Thomas and Horford dominated. John Wall and Jae Crowder got into it after a January game in Boston which very nearly led to a brawl. Wall couldn't do it all and Washington's bad bench was his and the team's ultimate undoing.

The Boston Celtics finally got the job done as they won their series decider with the Washington Wizards to advance to the National Basketball Association play-off conference finals.

For the Wizards, their Eastern finals drought continues. Still have not reached a conference final since 1979.

The Boston Celtics have been going further each year in the playoffs the past few seasons under head coach Brad Stevens.

The Celtics are headed to the Eastern Conference Finals, but first, they await their fate in the 2017 NBA Draft Lottery Tuesday night. But it will be hard - not impossible - for Boston to win if Thomas doesn't score at least 20 points. He has shot over 20 attempts in nearly every game this series, taking 25 in two of the last three games.

"Our guys battled", Wizards Coach Scott Brooks said.

But Washington quickly responded, scoring seven straight in just 51 seconds to get back within six. That started a run for the Wizards, which included Amir Johnson picking up his second foul. "End of the third quarter was big for us".

Olynyk's performance impressed everyone who watched, especially Celtics rookie Jaylen Brown, who has some high hopes if the big man is able to keep it up. Boston carried their positive momentum into the fourth quarter, where Olynyk took over.

Washington cut into Boston's lead before Olynyk scored 11 of his team's 13 points for a 110-100 lead.

The Garden crowd would have serenaded any Celtic who stepped up Monday night, be it Thomas, Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, or anyone else.

The rest of the first half was back-and-forth, with teams exchanging offensive spurts. Washington is just 6-3 in Game 7s. The Celtics and Wizards were tied twice.

The Celtics lost their first two games at home against the Bulls, but they've been dominant at TD Garden ever since.

The Celtics had the largest lead of the first half at 10-2, but that gap was quickly erased by Washington as Boston started to accumulate fouls. Kelly Olynyk's two free throws put the Celtics up 10. Wall meanwhile made only one of eight attempted three-pointers.

San Antonio held a 23-point lead at the time of the injury but couldn't hold of a furious comeback without its best player and dropped a 113-111 decision.

The incident generated talk from the Wizards that Olynyk was a dirty player.

The Celtics now move on to face the Cleveland Cavaliers in what should be a very exciting Eastern Conference Finals matchup.
