Spokeswoman confirms Serena Williams is pregnant

Williams, 35, who was ousted in the second round of Auckland's 2017 ASB Classic less than 20 weeks ago and later won the Australian Open in January, announced her engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in December.

'Serena Williams was pregnant when she won the Australia Open in January but I cant even get out of bed when I'm on my period.

Her win at the Australian Open this year was probably when she was two months pregnant and for that she has already proved that she is the greatest Tennis player ever.

However hours later, Los Angeles-based publicist Kelly Bush Novak confirmed to Reuters that the tennis superstar was pregnant.

Serena Williams has announced that she is pregnant, and while that is a wonderful development for her it will also have seismic impact on women's tennis.

Kim Clijsters won three of her four grand slam titles after the birth of her daughter Jada, including the US Open in only her third tournament back in 2009.

In the last week of December there was news of Serena Williams being engaged to the Reddit creator, she is again in the news and internet is going insane. So far, wedding plans are being kept under wraps, so we'll just have to keep a close eye on social media for clues.

The announcement, however, left the tennis fraternity to think as to how long she would continue with the sport.

Williams cited a knee injury in pulling out of tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami in March.

With the win, Serena surpassed Steffi Graf's tally of 22, thus becoming the most successful women's player in the Open era; only Margaret Court, with 24 titles across the amateur and Open eras, has more.

Serena Williams' friends and fellow athletes like Andy Roddick, Chris Evert, Caroline Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber took to Twitter to wish the champion on her pregnancy.

Developing story after World number two Serena William;s pregnancy news broke yesterday is that she will not be any competitive game for the rest of the season.

She beat her sister Venus in the final 6-4, 6-4 to claim her seventh title at the Australian Open.

"We've seen some other mothers come back ... but will she have enough motivation when she sees that little one?" former world No.1 Tracy Austin said on the Tennis Channel.
