Wall scores playoff-best 32 as Wizards beat Hawks in Game 1

In Game-1 against the Atlanta Hawks, the Wizards found an aggressiveness they lacked during the regular season - an aggressiveness that's needed to make a serious push in the playoffs.

Washington Wizards guard John Wall (2) dribbles the ball during the first half in Game 1 of a first-round NBA basketball playoff series, in Washington, Sunday, April 16, 2017. Keef Morris added 21 points in his first career playoff game, while Bradley Beal finished with 22. "I play in the moment".

A collective disdain for the officiating galvanized an announced capacity crowd.

That being said, Atlanta can still win a few games in this series and possibly steal it all if they can continue to win on the glass. Those comments didn't sit well with Markieff Morris.

"I think (Morris) came out and was aggressive for us in the third quarter and got us going", Wall said.

Words were exchanged. Morris didn't really remember after the game what he said, or he just wanted to appear like he forgot.

"It's the playoffs, man". "We knew their stuff, just like they knew ours. It matters what we want". "Not worry about what they saying". The free throws attempted were nearly even, an 18-16 edge for the visitors. He challenges himself to play against an All-Star player like Millsap.

Morris started the first quarter with a pull-up midrange jumper and as the players re-adjusted to the other end of the court, Millsap rushed to the post and forcefully checked his left shoulder into Morris.

This wasn't MMA, double or otherwise. Wall is particularly adept at finding Gortat around the rim - in the fourth quarter, the two connected for two more buckets around the basket. Brooks believes the inexperienced Wizards can have a positive impact throughout the postseason even without the benefit of having been there before: "If you play hard, that's all you have to do".

"That is also part of the reason why we've been good this year".

The stop and start play carried over into the second half as the refs continued to enjoy hearing themselves blow the whistle.

"This is my house", Wall said then and later. "This is a game that you have to do that". "I'm looking forward to seeing how we'll play, and I'm very confident with how we're going to play".

-The Wizards ran plays immediately for Porter out of halftime but his foul trouble prevented him for doing much.

Marcin Gortat received a technical foul for taunting after dunking over Millsap, pushing him aside.

Story line: Washington was a great comeback story this season, shaking off a 2-8 start like it never happened and putting together the best regular season for the franchise in almost 40 years.

After losing their starting front court, the team lost its lead.

Durant had 32 points and 10 rebounds in his Golden State playoff debut, Curry scored 29 points, and the Warriors withstood that sensational day by the Trail Blazers' dynamic backcourt duo to win Game 1 of the first-round series 121-109 on Sunday. He justifiably was criticized for his Game 1 performance by Hawks fans.

"Setting the tone", Morris said after the game. He has scored or assisted on at least 50 points four times in his playoff career, and the Wizards have won all four games. Following two offseason knee surgeries last summer, Wall has put together his best season since entering the league as a dancing No. 1 overall pick in 2010.
