Assault on CRPF jawans in Kashmir: Three people arrested

"Based on video and other evidence, five persons have been detained for questioning in connection with the heckling of a CRPF jawan in Chadoora of Budgam district", police said.

The latest development came after the CRPF registered a FIR against the culprits.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police identified 11 people and filed a complaint against the youth who were seen heckling and physically abusing - slapping and kicking - CRPF personnel in a series of videos that went viral.

Indian Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, in a statement threatening the Kashmiri youth had said, "One will see a transformed Kashmir in a year no matter how the change takes place". The video was reportedly shot in Beerwah, Omar's assembly constituency.

The three video clips of the Central Reserve Police Force personnel being roughed up and abused by mobs purportedly in Kashmir has triggered widespread anger.

Asked about a video showing a youth tied to an army jeep purportedly as a human shield against stone-pelting protesters, he said, "Action as per the law will be taken".

Posting picture and video on his twitter account, Omar said, "This young man was tied to front of an army jeep to make sure no stones were thrown at the jeep". Another video shows a young man, with torn shirt, being dragged and thrashed by a group of paramilitary and police officials.

Defence spokesman in Srinagar Colonel Rajesh Kalia said the contents of the video are being verified and investigated. "This is just so shocking!"

The video has caused outrage with former Chief Minister and opposition National Conference working president Omar Abdullah demanding an inquiry. "It would have led to death of those ruffians". "We are trying to ascertain the exact location", CRPF PRO told ANI.
