Georgetown Formally Interviewing Patrick Ewing

Ewing's planned campus visit was first reported Sunday night via Twitter by the CasualHoya.com site.

The NBA great and Hall of Famer agreed Monday to a multi-year deal to become the new coach at his alma mater, Georgetown University.

Ewing is now associate head coach of the Charlotte Hornets and has always been seeking an National Basketball Association head coaching job. If Patrick Ewing can install a player-friendly system, he will be able boost the Georgetown Hoyas in the eyes of potential recruits. After that he spent 17 seasons in the National Basketball Association, making the Hall of Fame, 15 of them with the New York Knicks, where he was an 11-time All-Star. He took over a seven-win team five seasons ago at Rhode Island and over the last three years has gone 65-35, including going 25-10 and earning an NCAA bid this season. He comes with a bevy of coaching experience, having served as an National Basketball Association assistant coach since 2002. He was drafted first overall by the New York Knicks and was named Rookie of the Year.

Having coached with the likes of Clifford, Collins, and the Van Gundy brothers, New York Knicks legend Patrick Ewing may finally apply what he's learned to a head coaching position.

Thompson III went 278-151 in 13 seasons as coach of the Hoyas. He played 15 years in NY followed by one season in Seattle and one season in Orlando.

It took Georgetown just a few weeks to figure out which idiot will succeed John Thompson III as the "Totally Real Head Coach That Isn't Just a Puppet of Big John" of the Hoyas: "A Taller and Totally Real Head Coach That Isn't Just a Puppet of Big John". But he has the name recognition, the pedigree as a professional, and the backing of Georgetown University.
