Massive Opening Weekend For "Beauty And The Beast"

Beauty And The Beast, a remake of the 1991 animation, is now on track to open in the United Kingdom with a three-day haul of £18.4 million, making it the highest grossing three-day opening weekend for a PG movie ever.

The British actress was reportedly given an upfront pay cheque of $3 million (£2.4 million) but depending on how well the movie goes over with audiences, sources are suggesting that she could take home up five times that amount.

Official numbers will not be released until Monday, however the current sales already indicate that Beauty And The Beast will break Watson's personal record of $169 million for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, which now holds the title for the eighth all-time most successful opening weekend. "It's such a gratifying thing to see audiences respond to a film".

It also beat the opening weekend numbers of last year's Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which banked $166 million in the first three days, to become the biggest opening weekend ever in March. Which would make it the seventh highest opening weekend of all time and the highest ever opening weekend for a March release. The franchise includes 2010's "Alice in Wonderland", 2014's "Maleficent", 2015's "Cinderella", and last year's "The Jungle Book".

Emma Watson is set to net a cool $15 million following the news that Beauty And The Beast is breaking all sets of records worldwide.

The film, which stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the title roles, scored another $180 million internationally. The film scored a 71 percent positive rating at Rottentomatoes.com, which compiles critics' ratings. BoxOfficePro.com was forecasting $175 million in weekend sales for the picture.

The new take on the classic ape tale stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson as adventurers who land on a mysterious island where they encounter Kong.

After being overshadowed by a gay controversy during the past few weeks, the movie has easily exceeded box office predictions. The movie, distributed by BH Tilt, tells the story of a group of people forced to participate in a game of kill or be killed.
