Austin 'goes country' with free Garth Brooks show at SXSW

Tickets for the show were available at noon Friday but sold out within minutes.

Fans of Garth Brooks who live in Austin, Texas are in for a treat as he is going to be performing a free concert at the 2017 SXSW Festival this weekend.

Brooks was first announced as a keynote speaker for Friday afternoon, but speculation that he may headline the free Saturday night show began to circulate late Wednesday (March 15th) when the organization informed the media that Brooks would be holding a press conference hours earlier. SXSW Outdoor Stage at Lady Bird Lake is located in Austin, TX.

Amazon Music announced that admission by complimentary ticket to this event will be restricted to residents of Austin and surrounding areas.

Brooks is not the only country icon to pop up at SXSW 2017 unannounced: On Tuesday night (March 14), Willie Nelson made a surprise appearance at Ray Benson's birthday party.

Not only did Garth Brooks invite KXAN back to his dressing room at South by Southwest, but he also rolled up his sleeves and helped our crew roll in a cart full of camera equipment.

Other artists on the bill include Texas country singer, Sunny Sweeney, psych-soul artist, Nicole Adkins, singer, Holly Macve, American songwriter, Shannon McNally, Texas outlaw country act Cale Tyson, and Canadian country singer Colter Wall. Badge and wristband holders will also have access based on capacity. Check here for more information about tickets.
