President Trump and German Chancellor Merkel postpone meeting due to weather

Snowstorms bearing down the USA east coast have forced German Chancellor Angela Merkel to postpone her visit to Washington DC.

The magazine wrote over the weekend that it had obtained documents showing what Merkel planned to discuss during her first visit to the Trump White House, set for March 14, as well as what Germany might do to respond to a USA border adjustable tax plan.

Forecasts for a blizzard that could sock the Northeast and shut down Washington prompted the White House to delay German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit scheduled for Tuesday.

Merkel hosted the visit for US Vice President Mike Pence at Munich Security Conference last month.

Although, Trump has been disapproving of Merkel's policies on many issues in the past, administration officials have indicated in a press briefing, the goal of Tuesday's meeting will "have a positive interaction".

The White House said the meeting was rescheduled for Friday.

Driven by Events: Merkel's Refugee Policy by political journalist Robin Alexander says Mrs. Merkel was warned 40,000 migrants were travelling through the Balkans and could enter Germany in a single weekend.

"I believe that direct, one-on-one conversations are always much better than talking about each other. Merkel and Trump really are the polar opposite of each other on so many levels".

While Merkel is a firm believer in the European Union and globalisation, Trump cheers Britain's departure from the EU and scrapped the TPP free trade deal in his first days in office. "She is also convinced that direct contact with Trump is vital..." "I'll hold my talks with President Donald Trump in this spirit". Another source of tension is Germany's 50 billion-euro trade surplus with the United States.
