If you need more of an explanation: a low pressure centre that is developing over the northwestern USA will be tracking just south of the Great Lakes.

"This snowfall has the potential to significantly affect travel due to accumulating snow and blowing snow, resulting in hazardous winter driving conditions", Environment Canada said in a special weather statement issued Sunday, ahead of the storm.

More disruptions in Ontario were expected with Environment Canada forecasting a further 5 centimeters (2 inches) to 10 centimeters (4 inches) of snow during the day.

Toronto is under a severe weather warning, with a winter storm expected to hit by Monday and last into early Wednesday. This could be the biggest snowfall of the season, just when we thought we might head into spring mostly unscathed. It could be a great time to give yourself a snow day.

The snow is expected to begin near midnight tonight and continue through Monday and into Tuesday with winds of 20 kilometres per hour. However, some areas across southwestern Ontario are forecasted to see 30 cm of snow.

The sun will come out again on Wednesday, while above-zero temperatures will return Thursday, Environment Canada said. The wind chill Tuesday morning is expected to be -28 C. "But as you get closer to the western part of the GTA, more like 15".
