97-year-old twins perish in cold after fall outside

They say they found her twin sister's body in the garage.

The younger sister was not with her older siblings at the time. Williams was found face down next to her auto in the driveway and Haley was found in the garage. She later returned to her own home, according to NBC 10.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, a spokesman for the Rhode Island Department of Health told The Post early Monday, but extremely cold temperatures overnight Friday may have been a factor, LaCross said. Part of the reason why the police do not suspect foul play was that there was no evidence showing that anything was taken, or that their was foul play in the two women falling down. Investigators believe Haley was walking through the garage to go inside and call for help when she tripped on a rug and fell, police said.

The 97-year-old sisters are thought to have both fallen separately after dining out, and were found after a neighbour spotted them. They were rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence in critical condition, but died shortly after. Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said the women were no more than 25 feet away from each other.

On Friday night, much of New England recorded some of their winters coldest temperatures.

Two 97-year-old twins have died in freezing temperatures after falling over outside one of their homes in the U.S. state of Rhode Island.
