Man With Rifle Sparks Standoff in Oakland After Spray Painting Home

ABC News reports while Enjaian was at UM, university police investigating him for stalking a fellow student, but he was never charged with a crime.

Officials say a gunman who fired numerous shots Friday morning in east Oakland near the zoo has been disarmed and is in police custody.

Helicopter footage by KGO-TV shows the man shooting from the window of a house in Las Vegas Avenue. A one point the man came out with the rifle and a spray can and drew obscene graffiti on the garage. Police said the suspect was a white male, wearing a blue hoodie and carrying a rifle.

Later in the day, Oakland police said Enjaian was in serious condition. His exact cause of death has not been released at this time.

When officers arrived, the suspect was in the street and began shooting at the officers. Those injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

Calls to an Oakland police spokeswoman were not returned Friday morning.
