Battle between Sasikala and Panneerselvam continue; Governor assures Sasikala first invitation

Meanwhile, five more AIADMK Lok Sabha MPs from Tuticorin, Perambalur, Vellore, Villupuram and Theni switched their allegiance to the Panneerselvam camp, taking the number to 11. After proposing her name for the party chief's post as well as the chief minister's job, the present chief minister O Pannerselvam, has suddenly revolted and staked his claim holding that he was coerced into submitting his resignation by Sasikala.

Sources said Governor Vidyasagara Rao does not want to be seen as being rushed into installing either AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala or the rebel incumbent O Panneerselvam as the chief minister. Ms Sasikala today deployed new allegations of "betrayer " against OPS, vowing that the party and she, trained by Ms Jayalalithaa who she described as " a lioness", would not be defeated by his invidious scheming.

Sasikala was on February 5 declared as the AIADMK legislature party leader.

This, however, triggered a political stalemate in the state with both camps calling on Governor Rao to press their demand to invite them to form the government. She held a meeting with the MLAs on Sunday, according to Firstpost. This response comes in backdrop of her dispproportionate case pending in the Supreme Court.

The PP was making his submissions during arguments on two habeas corpus pleas relating to alleged illegal detention of two MLAs- T Ramachandran and Geetha- at the resort where legislators supporting AIADMK general secretary Sasikala are housed. They kept on calling me for the support towards her. Motives can not be attributed to governor C.H. Vidyasagar Rao, Naidu said according to NDTV, as he is discharging his duties in a "non-partisan manner".

In the case of Sasikala, Jayalalitha herself never promoted her politically or gave her a position in the party or government. A former minister, Madhusudanan is one of the long-time members of the AIADMK. Removing him from the party's primary membership, Sasikala said in a statement that by backing Panneerselvam, Madhusudanan had violating the party's principles and brought disrepute to it.

Indian government's chief legal advisor and the primary lawyer of India's top court has asked the governor of India's southern state of Tamil Nadu to hold a floor test at the state assembly to determine the next chief minister of the state.
