Floyd Mayweather confirms Conor McGregor fight is 'very close'

The Irish Sun quoted an anonymous source it described as close to McGregor's Straight Blast Gym saying that the deal is complete. Rumors are afloat that terms and fees have been agreed upon, but there is a "third party hold up" for the match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor. One of the UFC's promises to the state during its lobbying over the past two years was to bring four fights a year to NY in each of the first three years of legalization.

It is believed that he will use the visit to Las Vegas to finalize the details with his representatives, in hopes of getting the fight to happen.

This has been touted as a billion-dollar fight by both Mayweather and McGregor.

"He would mainly bring up Floyd in passing, but over the past month or two it's started to become more serious. You know how much I asked for for that fight (against Tito Ortiz at a Belabor MMA event in January)?", asks White.

"He's got four fights left with the UFC". But Monday's report gives fans renewed hope that this long-awaited bout might actually go down.

The UFC also hosted a fight night last December in Albany and will bring a pay-per-view UFC 210 to Buffalo this April.

Floyd Mayweather social media hype may turn into a real boxing match.

Because of the trip, the undisputed UFC lightweight champion bailed out of a €100-a-head event that was scheduled for Friday night, citing that the reason was due to "an unavoidable schedule change".

The third-party holdup is none other than White, who has seemingly poo-pooed the idea all along.

Last month during an interview on ESPN's First Take, Mayweather said the only opponent that could bring him out of retirement is McGregor. "If I was to put all of them down and have one boxing plate spinning, it would be like a load off my shoulders", McGregor said. "There's a real offer", White said. It's the fight I want. The larger-than-life McGregor started his career in combat sports as an amateur boxer.
