Authorities: 1 Hurt, 1 in Custody in Ohio School Shooting

Serna stands accused of using a Mossberg Model 500 12-gauge shotgon that injured two students at West Liberty Salem High School, Champaign County Prosecutor Kevin Talebi said.

One person was hurt in the incident at the West Liberty High School, according to the Champaign County Sheriff's Office. A 17-year-old student has been arrested and charged with a delinquency count of felonious assault. 16-year-old Logan Cole is hospitalized in Columbus in critical but stable condition. Deputies have declined to release the male suspect's name.

Authorities haven't released information about the shooter. They ran to a nearby house after being told to, she said. Superintendent Kraig Hissong says those students are being taken to an off-campus location where their parents will be able to pick them up.

Dalton's wife grew up in West Liberty, and they moved there because she felt it would be the best place to raise their child. Local media said initial reports indicated that someone was shot through a window of a boys restroom in the high school.

A State Highway Patrol spokesman says troopers were helping parents with student pickups as the sheriff's office handles the investigation.

No confirmed details were immediately available about the suspect, the injured person or the circumstances of the shooting.

Senior Ashley Rabenstein told local TV reporters that she was in class down the hall at the time, and when students first heard an odd noise, they weren't sure what it might be because construction has been occurring at the property.
