Elton John's emotional tribute to George Michael

Elton, who famously sang the 1997 funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, is rumored to be planning to perform at the singer's funeral.

"There will be so many mourners and friends", said one anonymous insider to the website.

Elton sat behind a piano as he passionately performed the song with a band while beaming a huge image of George onto the set behind him.

After tragically dying in a auto accident on August 31, 1997, her close pal Elton sang Candle In The Wind, with some new lyrics supplied by Bernie Taupin, at the service.

He said: "On Christmas Day, George Michael passed away".

Following the former Wham! star's sudden death aged 53 on Christmas Day (25Dec16), Elton was one of the first to pay tribute, sharing a snap of himself with George on his Instagram page and writing: "I am in deep shock".

"I have lost a beloved friend - the kindest, most generous soul and a brilliant artist", he wrote.

Since then, tributes to the popstar have flooded in from his family, friends and fans still in disbelief. A private funeral and a public memorial will reportedly be held for Michael, although no date has yet been announced. The plot is located in Highgate, North London. Other godchildren who could also benefit from his fortune include James and Harry Kennedy, sons of Andros Georgiou - a close friend of Michael.

After the performance, he was "physically shaking".

"I only wish George was here to sing it with me", John told the audience, appearing to be in tears, according to The Daily Mail.
