Tyler Lockett out for the season after breaking his leg

This wasn't one of those times.

Seattle will now have to win in San Francisco next Sunday and hope the Falcons lose to the Saints if they hope to get a first-round bye in the playoffs.

And it's tough to blame Saturday's loss on any one thing.

That time came Saturday in the closing minutes of their 34-31 loss to the Cardinals.

Seahawks wide receiver and return man Tyler Lockett was carted off the field after suffering a gruesome right leg injury following a 28-yard grab in the second quarter. Johnson began the drive after Seattle pulled within 31-25, with 2:44 left in game.

Baldwin was targeted on 14 of the 32 passes Russell Wilson threw following Lockett's injury, catching nine for 117 yards and a touchdown.

"You run out of superlatives to describe him", wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald said.

For most of the day it looked like Johnson would struggle to continue his string of at least 100 yards from scrimmage, a streak that started with the opener.

Lockett finishes the season with 41 catches for 597 yards and a touchdown. Finding a return man as good as Lockett will be nearly impossible to do this late in the season. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians, for what it's worth, said Arizona would have blocked Hauschka's final PAT try had it been kicked straight. And this particular PAT was huge, because had Hauschka made it, it would have given Seattle the lead with only a minute left in the game.

So have some poor snaps from Frese, a rookie who took over after Seattle released Clint Gresham in an offseason cost-cutting move that seemed curious at the time and now foolish in retrospect. The only other teams to beat Seattle at home since 2013 are the Cowboys in 2014, the Panthers in October of last season and the Rams in December 2015. "We have been able to run the football good enough and Carson makes plays". But instead, Seattle showed up and delivered another lackluster first half performance, albeit against a team that always seems to give it trouble. Instead, the Seahawks could be on the road in the divisional round - assuming they win their first playoff game - unless they win next week and get some help.

Seattle has already clinched the NFC West title.
