Pep Guardiola Eyes January Sales but Cancels Christmas

City coach Pep Guardiola has detailed the plans for his team ahead of its December 26 match at northern team Hull in the English Premier League and it seems Christmas Day is no holiday for his players.

Guardiola, whose side are third and trail leaders Chelsea by seven points, said he consulted his players before taking the decision. "I'm not saying we won't do anything in the window, you never know what might happen in a week or two, but at the moment we have no plans for a major signing. Gabriel Jesus is coming, we will have another striker and we will finish the season with nearly all of our players".

It was Sterling's first goal in almost three months after opening the season by scoring five times in his first 10 games under Guardiola. "Of course, the situation is not good but I saw many, many games and they are a special team. This is an important stage of the season".

City kick-off the Christmas programme with a trip to face Mike Phelan's relegation battlers as they look to hang onto the coat tails of Chelsea at the top of the table.

He said: "They started quite well".

"What we have to do - the players, with the quality they have - they have to be able to convince themselves to put out all their qualities. We have been dominating games but have had difficulty making openings and scoring goals".

City should, on paper, have enough to see off Hull City on Monday, but staying in the title race over the following weeks will be a different animal.

"What I have learned in my short period here is that the gap between the first 10 and the last 10 is not a big difference". We will have to be prepared. "I am not expecting that the games whether they are home or away will be easier than any others".

Striker Sergio Aguero will serve the last game of a four-match suspension but midfielder Fernandinho has completed a three-match ban.
