Days of Caring - Salvation Army Bell Ringers

More than 800 needy families will have a meal to eat over the Christmas holidays, through the decades-old effort by the Salvation Army, to distribute food hampers at Christmastime.

But this year, Schatz has noticed fewer people are giving.

The donation is worth $46,000, according to the Salvation Army.

Lt. Colonel Dan Jennings, Salvation Army Midland divisional commander, said it is "critical" that the Tree of Lights fundraising campaign reach its $6.1 million goal.

"I like seeing the person's face when they get the donation". She came to our program with many needs; homeless (living with a family friend), needing help with her children and with financial needs.

The Red Kettle campaign ends on Christmas Even but you can continue to contribute at their web site.

"We all shop in different ways".

Bell ringers will be out through Saturday afternoon but the Salvation Army accepts donations for the campaign into January. We have online kettles.

Money raised in the campaign stays local, and 86 cents of every dollar directly supports programs and services. "You're OK to give and donate in the comfort of your own home", Bell said.

"We hope and pray that the community can rally and help close the gap", said Lt. Colonel Dan Jennings in a statement Friday.

Rotary was pleased recently to induct as a Club member Major Corps Officer Doug Jones who is responsible for the ministry of the Salvation Army's Hempstead Citadel.
