Mourinho gives the green light to Schneiderlin transfer request

Cape Town - Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Morgan Schneiderlin will be allowed to leave Manchester United in January "if the offer is right". The 53-year-old made this submission when asked about the future of the former Southampton man in the pre-match press conference for the Boxing Day clash at home to Sunderland.

West Brom's offer, which is believed to be worth up to £20 million including add-on clauses, was lodged following discussions with United last weekend.

Asked if the 27-year-old had told him he wished to move away, Mourinho replied: "Yeah".

"I don't want to say anymore other than confirm our bid". If he's not playing regular I have no right to say to a player "you are going nowhere".

But West Brom boss Tony Pulis is confident that his side's good start to the season will stand them in good stead with Schneiderlin. "We will talk about them if we get them", Pulis said.

"Yes", said Mourinho. "He's a great professional, a fantastic boy".

Everton are thought to be the favourites to sign Schneiderlin with Ronald Koeman keen to reunite with the player he managed at Southampton.

The France global has featured just eight times under Mourinho this term, with his only starts coming in the EFL Cup and Europa League. "If the right offers comes then he will be free to go".

However, it had quickly become apparent that Mourinho saw no future for him in a new-look United style and Schneiderlin, along with Dutch winger Memphis Depay, looks increasingly certain to leave the club next month. We will talk about them if we get them. Doing deals and business with people you should deal directly with them. "More than listening for offers, I'm always ready to listen to the players themselves".
