Chinese consumer watchdog demands Apple to replace all faulty batteries

Apple says these iPhone 6s devices are shutting down unexpectedly for users; even when there is 30 or 40 per cent battery left on the smartphone.

To check if your iPhone 6s is one of the affected models go to the Unexpected Shutdown Issues page on Apple's website. Users can also access Settings General About on their iPhone 6s handset to find the serial number. It would seem that this is not a bug, but a sort of feature - as Apple says: "an iPhone is actually created to shut down automatically under certain conditions".

But it turns out that the problem really stemmed from a bug in version 10.1 or 10.1.1 of Apple iOS, and now Apple is offering free battery replacement by those affected.

"It's important to note, this is not a safety issue", Apple said. It mentioned the problems of the consumers and asked for clarification, asking Apple to improve the program, with more convenient bookings and consultation system in place for the replacement of batteries.

Apple on Thursday introduced a tool for users to know if their iPhone is eligible for a free battery replacement.

Users had complained that a number of iPhone 6s models were switching themselves off without warning and were unable to boot up again.

Apple iPhone 6s units that were made between the given dates will have their battery replaced by Apple for free, if they experience the sudden shutdown issue. After hearing multiple complaints, Apple issued a replacement process for those iPhone 6s users who were facing such shutdowns.

The letter sent by the Chinese government association on the 15 of November mentioned the above models, being suspected of malfunctioning problems.

The iPhone 8 is expected to be a complete evolution of the iPhone 6 that was released in September 2014. Earlier, reports have already said that the company is looking towards producing an iPhone 8 with a screen that poses a higher resolution than the Galaxy S7.

An Apple Store Genius employee in Manhattan said that 80% of its cases are now a result of the bug. The brand seems to have realized that, which is why it's now rolled out a new serial number checker on the program's page.
