NFL Scout Believes Lane Kiffin Could Upgrade An Offense

"It could be what Miles is looking for", a source told McMurphy.

On Wednesday, the website FootballScoop, citing unnamed sources, said Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin has been discussed as an OR candidate. UH also plans to interview two in-house candidates - interim coach/defensive coordinator Todd Orlando and offensive coordinator Major Applewhite, the Chronicle reported. "I'm not saying he's No. 5 on the list or No. 1 on the list".

The University of Houston has reportedly contacted former LSU head coach Les Miles to possibly fill the coaching void for the school's football team according to a report from ESPN.

Miles went 114-34 in 12 seasons at LSU, which included two SEC titles, two national title games and a BCS championship.

OR fired coach Mark Helfrich on Tuesday night after a disappointing 4-8 season, and one of the names being discussed as his replacement will be of particular interest to LSU fans.

"I would love for Art Briles to be on our super-short list", Fertitta said. It's a familiar situation for the Cougars, who said goodbye to Kevin Sumlin after the 2011 season.

If Houston leans towards Kiffin, it will likely have to battle newly minted LSU coach Ed Orgeron for him. However, a source told ESPN that it is "highly unlikely" Holgorsen would leave a Power 5 job at West Virginia for Houston. Houston, or another high-profile Group of Five job, could be equally appealing to Kiffin, who hasn't been allowed to comment on these potential opportunities as part of Nick Saban's media policy which keeps assistants from speaking to the media.
