Feds give states more time to bolster struggling schools

While running for governor of MI in 2006, Dick DeVos ― whose wife, Betsy, is now President-elect Donald Trump's pick for USA secretary of education ― said that schools should have the option of teaching intelligent design alongside evolution. Jennifer Granholm (D) a decade ago.

"I'm glad to see another woman appointed to a leadership position", said Jordan, who worked with DeVos while Jordan was chairman of the Florida Republican Party under Gov. Jeb Bush and as a member of the Republican National Committee. DeVos said he would support guidelines that would allow intelligent design to be included in science curricula. "That theory and others that would be considered credible would expose our students to more ideas, not less".

"We have made great strides this Congress to deliver control of K-12 education back to local communities, while making sure limited federal education funding is going to the communities that need it the most". Indeed, these appointments are a threat to American democracy - but I believe America is much smarter than what these individuals have to offer. Lots of intelligent people can disagree about the origins of life.

The Badass Teachers Association, a group of 80,000 teachers and education activists, has also taken issue with Trump's appointment of DeVos.

The Council of Chief State School Officers acknowledged the agency for listening to the concerns expressed by state education chiefs around the country.

Stern said a Trump administration could learn, as it facilitates public spending for private schools, that not all comers would be to its ideological liking - but there would be little the administration could do to discriminate. "It is unconstitutional and bad public policy".

During the show Amway came up; it's a multi-level marketing company started by Devos' father-in-law and run by Devos' husband.

It took a few weeks, but finally President-elect Donald Trump broke from his streak of picking white men to work in his administration, and finally added a woman to his Cabinet.

Focus on the Family promotes the harmful and discredited practice of so-called "ex-gay" conversion therapy and has accused anti-bullying programs in schools of "promoting homosexuality".

Notably, DeVos did not respond to a request for comment for Politico's story.

General church-state separationists were less circumspect. Dismantling the public school system would mean leaving the most vulnerable to fend for themselves. "The courts would agree with us on that one".

"The best evidence we have now is that if you look across the country, kids in charter schools perform similarly on state tests to kids who are in similar schools". According to Slate, kids in New Orleans who used a private school voucher lost 13 percentage points in their math learning scores. "She has devoted her entire career to finding ways to divert taxpayer money away from public schools and toward private ones, most often by pushing voucher plans". Instead of fixing the broken funding mechanisms of Texas public schools, Capitol Hill lawmakers seek to pass new "school choice" legislation that provides tuition vouchers for students to attend charter and private schools on the government's dime.

As the ACLU pointed out in a statement earlier this week, "Betsy DeVos has ardently supported unlimited, unregulated growth of charter schools in MI, elevating for-profit schools with no consideration of the severe harm done to traditional public schools".

The president-elect declared that under Devos's leadership, "we will reform the USA education system and break the bureaucracy that is holding our children back so that we can deliver world-class education and school choice to all families".
