Somonauk church will host community Thanksgiving service

Paducah Cooperative Ministry will present its 37th Annual Interfaith Community Thanksgiving Service at 6 p.m. Sunday, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 5645 Blandville Road. A year ago the dinner served over 2,000 people along with 330 meals delivered to homebound seniors. A choral anthem, "Canticle of Praise", by Hal Hopson will be presented by a combined choir consisting of members from the choirs of the participating churches and others.

Homebound residents who would like a meal delivered to them may contact Doris Odegard at 625-4382 until the end of the day, Wednesday, Nov. 23.

Volunteer are still needed throughout the day on Thanksgiving, beginning with the 4 a.m. early call.

Carry-outs, deliveries and pick-ups are available.

The Forest City Community Thanksgiving Dinner begins at noon Thursday, Nov. 24, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 246 S. Clark St.

Businesses that have contributed this year include Walmart, United Supermarkets, Dinner Bell and Whataburger.

Following the worship service everyone is invited to the Hazel Smith (Parish) Hall for refreshments and fellowship.

The event is free for all to attend, and volunteers are appreciated.

While Independence Cay will not host dinner, Roberts encouraged those in need to visit St. Columba Episcopal Church at 451 52nd St. bayside (behind the Panda House restaurant) for a service at noon on Thanksgiving followed by a full turkey dinner.
