After testy VP debate, Trump rebuffs claim he 'loves' Putin

Republican vice-presidential nominee Gov. Mike Pence and Democratic vice-presidential nominee Sen. Tim Kaine, left, met at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, for their debate October 4, 2016.

"The very fact that he is in Pennsylvania today in the Susquehanna Valley shows how important we are to this presidential election", she said.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, an Illinois Republican who has refused to endorse Trump, told CNN's Wolf Blitzer Wednesday he would vote for Pence for president "in a heartbeat". And if Trump continues his combative, bombastic style - which didn't work in his last debate - he is not likely to benefit much from Pence's good performance.

The rival running mates repeatedly interrupted each other - and debate moderator Elaine Quijano of CBS - during the debate.

Pence did often choose to ignore the attacks on Trump and tried as often as he could to turn his focus to Clinton's record as secretary of state.

John Harpole, chief executive of Mercator Energy, said he did not understand why the Obama administration's response to the shale boom and Clinton's energy positions had not come up during the first presidential debate last week. While U.S. -Russia relations nosedive over failed diplomacy in Syria, Trump has complimented Putin, calling him a strong leader and even encouraging him to track down Clinton's missing emails, though Trump later said he was being sarcastic. Trump said of Bill Clinton during a rally in Prescott, Arizona.

"She is supposed to fight all of these different things and she can't make it 15 feet to her vehicle". As I campaign with him and campaign for him, I just truly do believe this is a movement of the American people and it's a movement that speaks to the ideals that really have characterized your voice and your career.

Clinton, the first woman to be nominated for the presidency by a major US party, has rushed to capitalize on Trump's public feud with Machado, whom he once called "Miss Piggy" because of her weight gain, and make inroads with women voters five weeks before the November 8 election.

Gwen Ecklund, Republican chairwoman in Crawford County, Iowa, said Republicans in this conservative western Iowa county have told her they'd like to see Pence at the top of the ticket.

Will Trump Seize the Opportunity?

"Some people think I won", Pence said.

"So if he can improve on some of his answers, show more knowledge, and not be as wild-eyed as he was in the first debate, it could be very different", he said. "But we can't let talk of him overshadow Trump".

Debate experts said voters often make their judgement based on a candidate's overall tone and performance, rather than the actual facts.

The video starts off with a tongue-in-cheek text-overlay: "At the VP debate, Mike Pence seemed to have discovered he was Donald Trump's running mate. he had a hard time with the news".

A third presidential debate is scheduled for October 19 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
